Hello all, first post here. I inherited a good amount of pennies from my grandpa dating from 1910 to the late 1960s. I have one that is kind of peculiar and I was hoping for some insight. I don't know if it's an error or just something someone did to the penny. There is an extra layer of metal around the rim of the penny. The extra metal is magnetic as well which is a bit weird. I'm leaning towards it not being an error and just something weird that was done to it. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Welcome to the Forum! It appears that someone fashioned that cent into a charm.

I agree. It is in a bezel like maybe from a necklace.

I too agree, a bezel was added post mint to the coin's rim. Keep searching!

In addition to the bezel, it looks to me like this cent was gold plated. A fun curiosity, but neither adds to the numismatic value.

Added: welcome to CCF!

At one point this was possibly a 'Birthday' charm, as it is still in its bezel and at some point broke away from the chain.

Thanks everyone for confirming my suspicion, he had it in a jar labeled miss prints so I thought I'd ask. Much appreciated!

Your Grandpa labeled it as mis-print, look at the word cent it looks like it is md or doubled? I agree with all of above. I am just trying to figure out what your grandpa saw.
