Hi, I came across a $2 coin today that appears undated, in some light angles I think I can make out a digit. Has anyone seen this before? I'm new to coin collecting so unsure if this is a known error.
Thanks

Hi NRK72 and

Most likely a die fill error https://blog.ha.com/something-is-mi...0does%20not.

Hard to see to distinguish between extensive wear and probable counterfeit with this pic. Could be a Grease Filled Die, but I am inclined to think not so - Grease Filled Die errors seem to be very scarce with this series.
Need to know accurate weight.

Looks as though it is dated 2005 and I'm fairly certain that I've seen a similar coin previously on ebay.

Hi sel_69l, what indicators do you see that makes you think that it might be a fake?

I don't think it's fake though, just a Greaser.

I found it in a coin roll from Nab. I have other pics in better light. This one seemed to show detail the best.

I would be prepared to say with 100% certainty this is a real $2, having handled them since their inception. But for the sake of the suggestion, how would one distinguish a real from a counterfeit $2.

The error or wear or whatever was my query.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes I had a read of your links above and I believe it does fit the Greaser category

NRK72, when posting your photos it's always a good idea to orientate them correctly and to show both sides as well.

Here is some information regarding how to recognise a fake $2 coin https://www.australian-coins.com/co...ian-2-coins/

The design features of this coin are rather indistinct.
My problem is that from the pics, I cannot really make up my mind if the lack of sharp detail is due to wear, or it is counterfeit.

Hence the reason for wanting to know the accurate weight.

On close inspection of the front I'm not sure if it's real now. Does this look to be fake?

So far as weighing it goes I only have kitchen scales that do one decimal point and it's showing 6.5
