This looks like a bundle of random, otherwise nondescript bills (including a decent 1934 $5).

But after doing some some basic math, not so random.

This is a serial bouquet.
--The serial number on the highest bill, called the parent, equals the sum of the serial numbers on the other bills, called the children.
--The denomination on the parent equals the sum of the other denominations.

None of these bills by themselves will have a coolness index, but hopefully they have some coolness collectively!

As a numbers nerd, I have to admit, that is a fun idea!

Although some find it interesting, I'm not a big fan of incorporating mathematical equations into numismatics. I'm sure if I tried to explain it to a non-collector, they'd be asleep before I finished.

And, welcome to CCF.

This is a numerical approach which is new to me. Kind of interesting if you are into numbers.

That is cool, but how long did it take to figure that one out?

Interesting how the serial numbers add up and the denomination also added up to be $5

My college and grad school background was in mathematics and I consider myself more than a bit of a math nerd. I find this very interesting! My first thought was "What are the odds of being able to put together a set like this?".

Very neat set! And,

I must admit, you remind of the guy from A Beautiful Mind.

thx for all the notes :) and I really appreciate all the other posts and people sharing their experiences and pictures.

SteveinTampa, I've put my share of non-collectors to sleep with this lol, was hoping it might be different here. Took years and years to be able to do this, easier now but an app definitely woulda helped :) Hokie, the chances that random serial numbers on those five bills would form a serial bouquet is about 1 in 2.6 billion.

man. hobbyists will never cease to amaze me. this is both very strange and very interesting. it never would have occurred to me to look for such a thing.

do you get extra points for having all of the children be from San Francisco?
