I have two absolute beautiful top grade 1965 business strike Roosevelt dimes. Problem is I had them graded at ANACS. When I sent the coins in I thought a ms69 grade. There was a very very small hairline scratch on the coins and that is why I thought ms69. There have the most beautiful finish and strong strikes. Both were only graded ms68 fsb by ANACS. I was upset but I guess that is what happens. My only thought is should I send them to PCGS to be regraded? If at least I get a ms68 fsb from PCGS the price difference is well worth it. I can't believe these Roosevelt 1965 dimes are that flawless. Now I know the pictures I have are terrible and very bad but hopefully you may be able to see the quality. I have to get a good camera, not the usb microscope I have. Those few little spot are dust I forgot to brush off before taking photos. Would PCGS upgrade? *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! *** Edited by SaturnD51 12/06/2022 09:11 am

Hmm , if I didn't know that Anacs graded it MS-68 I would have said that's from a 1965 SMS . If by chance I'm right then do not regrade with any TPG . High grade SMS coins are common .

Originally I sent in 15 1965 Roosevelts. All of them were beautiful. I was shocked when they came back because 13 were SMS 1965 and 2 were business strikes. A lot of the SMS Roosevelts were ms69 fsb. That in itself was good enough for me but the business strikes were rare. That's why If I send it to them for a regrade as a business strike then I hope they will give it ms68 fsb. I guess if they believe it is an SMS then they will not encapsulate it.

PCGS is going to be harder on the coin than ANACS

I picked up a roll of 1965 P in an original bank roll for 30 bucks about 10 months ago from my LCS it was an absolute tight pristine roll. 40 are gems with at least a dozen ultra grades about 11 look to me as full bands. Here is the neat thing about it...all 50 dimes were from 2 distinct dies - one where a mint employee went crazy with scrubbing the reverse die and the other die looks to me as early die state on both obv. and reverse. Math doesn't work out for me to pay getting the ones that pop graded so placed them in an old little pine jewelry box that says "Minnesota Fishing" put them in the kitchen cupboard and forgot about them. Pulled a few out to look at them few weeks back and man I gotta tell ya top layer is toning into a subtle blue. Nice so put them back in shut the top and stashed them away. Its cheaper for me to just buy a 1965 ultra grade than a crapshoot with ngc / PCGS but its a little tempting but not tempting enough. Thats a nice looking gem probably a MS-66 with PCGS but consider only 28 have made the high bar of MS-67 w/o full bands and still can be found for under 150 bucks with full bands. Nice coin, good luck hope it comes back ultra grade for you.

Those are SMS coins definitely not Business strikes! Yikes! Pacificoin just wonder why they look like sms to you. 5 graders at ANACS said they were business strikes. I myself do not know the difference between business and sms. I have tried looking up the differences but when I look at the coins I can't tell.Just curious.

Those coins are business strike and not SMS, could be see very clear.
The problem to be PCGS to has better price for, IMHO it is just a myth or a blowing in the wind believe. PCGS it is not better then ANACS and NCG, it is worst. The difference it is just marketing and they push for theirs prices doing and pushing a policy of denying the others. In fact and reality they are the worst graders at this moment, but has the best website and many members from long time.
At this moment they are base of young's (green) graders and miss the really ones. And also they give better grades for theirs favorite customers.

Lovmycam -PCGS has a quarterly special where you can send 20 coins in for grading. Select min. Grade and only get charged $12 per coin if slabbed and $2 if not slabbed. Might be a good opportunity for your stash! As to the OP - I can not tell the difference between SMS and business either. My research seems to think TPG's get it wrong too. I have a huge hole in my Collection for those years and don't know which way to go. Slabbed, raw, or just wait till I can learn more. To your question, I really doubt an upgrade from PCGS. They currently have a population of 3 in 68. None in 69. However, auction prices look worth it if you do get a PCGS 67 or 68. Weight that agents a body bag if they go sms you.
