What can/should I do with this, it seems to have signifcant detail, esp in the stars, but is obviously a detector find or something similar.

Soak first in distilled water for a few days, pat dry, followed by acetone for a few days. This will not damage the coin. Just rinse well after the acetone soak. This looks like organic matter and it should take care of the green gunk.

And don't worry about the condition. I've seen much worse at coin shows for sale. I know one dealer that would almost think yours is uncirculated compared to his.

Once the fields take on that black appearance I don't know of anything that will remove it except maybe an acid soak.
