This last October, I happened to pull out from storage the last remaining vestiges of my earlier coin collection. Besides an album with an incomplete U.S. type set, I had several Whitman folders containing a good portion of the moderns.
I had sold off most of my better coins back in 2013 to finance the purchase of a nice Stratocaster Guitar and other music gear.
Now the coin bug has bit me again.
My new venture consists of completing that set from circulation. The Whitmans provided a good start, but the bulk of the coins I have since added came from searching through a humongous glass jug into which my wife and I have been tossing all of our pocket change for the past 15 years.
I estimate about $500 in nickels, dimes, and quarters in that jug!
Even after all that, I still lack about 20 each of post 1960 Jefferson nickels and clad dimes, as well as about 50 of the State, ATB, and Prominent Women Quarter issues. Most of these are Philly coins, which seem take a longer time to filter across the Mississippi and make their way to Colorado.
For halves and dollar coins, I have resorted to buying a roll of each from the bank once a month.
All in all, it is actually a fun project. Much more challenging than I had originally thought it would be.
In parallel to this, I have been setting aside a budget to purchase coins for a U.S. date/mint set spanning 1900 through 1964, plus later date proof coins. Of course, I will post updates on most of this over in the classic coin forum.
Cheers...

Always fun. Searching rolls (all available denominations) will fill most album holes pretty quickly--in the high AU range, with a few at low MS. Good luck!

This is a no-lose project, except for the time and gas to sort/ pick up the coins.

Good luck with your searching. It might take a while but eventually it's an achievable goal.

Yoyu sound quite knowledgeable but I might mention anyway that finding the best example you can and upgrading is desirable. Many clads are very poorly made so don't just look for minimal wear but also better strikes from better dies. Also it's more complicated because most of the coins have been getting all scratched up for the last several years. This seems worst with quarters but it's another consideration in choosing specimens for a collection. Having an old hoard of coins as you do is a great way to start.

The attrition on circulating coins has become staggering. This means some dates are hard to find and then much harder to find in nice condition.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Thanks, All,
Yes, I've found that many of the coins from the 70s through 90s are pretty roached from circulation. In the past couple months I've already replaced several with nicer examples. Surprisingly, I came across a 1983-D quarter with very little in the way of scratch marks. My original one was covered with circulation damage. The replacement is a nice AU. very uncommon these days!

If I understand well you are in Miss or Col. If you has a friend on the east coast maybe can help you. I will buy bags instead rolls. Always upgrade with better coins. "CLAD" give you the best line to follow. Do not forgot: this it is your first challenge, followed by others . Hope lessening good news which will made me happy.

Good luck. I did this about a decade ago and it was fun. As I live on the East Coast, those pesky D mints always took a while to find. Hopefully you'll be able to complete your sets soon.

Thanks, All,
I am in Colorado, so the D mint marks are no problem to find.
