So, pre civil war coins are very difficult to find in Italy... I've found two... Saw this half dollar today at a coin shop, but it's priced at €180... Part of me is emotional attached to buying up american coins in Rome...but that price feels stupid high...there is, of course, room for negotiation...

@john, I am not a member of that site and do not collect at the level that sold comps are that crucial to me, but I did look at ebay listings and sold comps. It's certainly high retail.
I never ask value on these forums (maybe early on, once or twice). I mostly enjoy soliciting conversation and showing people what's made it's way to Rome.

Nice looking coin. It should have a lettered edge as another indicator of authenticity.

Looks to be in G8/VG10 condition. The asking price is way high. Here in the USA I would start at 50% of that price for this coin in that state of wear.

Step away from that one, Roma. As nickelsearcher stated, similar coins sell for about half of that asking price here in the US.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

That's what I thought; I just got excited seeing one in Italy. I'd already decided I was going to pass.

This is the O-119 common variety. Good pass, this coin looks to be about a $50 USD coin. Check out the filled A in STATES, there was a die chip for that reverse die. Beautiful piece of American history that is almost 200 years old!!
Suffering from bust half fever.

Shoot me a PM if you are looking to sell bust halves.
