I am very new to coin collecting and/or selling. Does anyone know of a group or club of collectors in the San Antonio, TX area? I would love to connect and attend a meeting.

Regards,

Mark

PS Since my first post was deleted, I will try again. Yes, I read the post what to do if you inherit coins. Moving on.

I would really like to find a coin enthusiast who can help with some coins that I have inherited. I went to a local coin buyer and I think they gave me a really low ball number. Yesterday I looked each of them up on PCGS and then listed them on ebay. I don't really understand the grading, but I just took a guess at the price based on a loose average. I am hoping someone can tell me if I am seriously over or under pricing these coins. I can't really delve into another hobby right now, so I am hoping someone will lend some advice.

Mark

PS I am not trying to sell these coins to anyone here, I am just looking for some help with pricing. For instance, I have a lot of 9 Mercury dimes and I started the bidding at 500 thinking they they may be worth 100 each.

Unless the Mercury dimes are key dates and/or highly graded, they are only worth their silver value. I think $500 is way (in the 100X) too much. If they are common date circulated coins you are talking $3-$5 each.

That helps. The likelihood they are special is low. They are:

1925 - 1 dime
1936 - 1 dime
1941 - 1 dime
1942 - 3 dimes
1943 - 1 dime
1944 - 1 dime
1945 - 1 dime

All 9 appear to be from the West Point mint. All clearly spent some time in circulation.

"W" is the designer's initial. No West Point mint marks back then. The dates you listed are fairly common. Agree with Hfjacinto's estimates.

Welcome to CCF. Do internet search for San Antonio coin clubs and you'll find them. Also internet search for San Antonio coin shows. Have fun and learn about fakes so you don't buy them.

Common dates, the only that might be worth a little more is if the 1945 has a micro S than it might be worth $10.

For 9 dimes in average circulated condition, you are maybe lucky to get $27. A coin shop will will give you $18-$20.

I guess you didn't get a lot of traction on ebay?

You can check the 1942 dimes for the 42/41 overdate - those bring pretty good money.

Note to self. Do not leave obscure collections of items for your descendants to sort out later. My hobbies are not theirs. Be kind, and convert to cash before death if possible. There is too much going on with a parents death to deal with to also add learning about old rare coins, mint marks, and numismatistology.
