Hello everyone, My friend has coins she inherited from her mom. She's wondering if she should get them graded? This morgan is a different color/finish than the others. its almost matte looking. I took a picture next to another morgan she has, for reference. She has a couple other coins, but ill post them separately of course. & Any information or thoughts are appreciated! As a general rule: a coin needs a retail value of at least $100 to $150 after slabbing to justify all costs involved in sending it in.John1

I would start with weighing the coin first (I hate coins this color)

There is no reason to grade a coin like this. The costs of the grading are more than the coins value. There really needs to be a message/sticky for newcomers that are mandated to read before asking to grade.

Ok john thx.
Also I wasn't ask you to grade, I was just asking if you thought it was worth grading.

These two coins need to grade at least AU50 to send in and they do not...IMHO. Now you need to do the tissue test and weigh them and see if they stick to a good magnet. John1

I really like these naturally toned dollars. Very attractive to me. Not worth spending the money to certify though. I really like the 1897. What's the mint mark on it or does it have one?

They look 100% genuine to me.
Not worth sending in, IMO. You're going to spend more than what the coins are valued at.
With a few exceptions, I can't justify sending in most coins under $250.

Worn Morgan and Peace dollars are good for what's called stacking. Collectors keep them for their 90% silver melt value and because they have some worth above melt. They are often called "cull." As to value, unless they are a scarce year, Carson City mint or rare variety, cull Morgan, Peace dollars currently are selling for roughly $30 to $35 each. You can check sold prices on ebay.
