Thoughts on this?
There's an indentation, but inside the indentation is part of the ear or some other part of the die, which leads me to believe the indentation was there first and then minted.
The bottom two are before I cleaned it, top is after
Anyway, does this look like something worthy of being sent out and graded?

It looks like PMD of some kind to me,not an error. As a general rule;a coin needs a retail value of at least $100 to $150 after slabbing to justify all costs involved in sending it in.

You can see a flat spot on the reverse. Almost looks as if they tried to grind it off

I generally don't see how this was produced at the Mint but also can't explain the lack of zinc showing if the depression was ground off. Waiting for our experts to show up and offer their views.

That said - the cost to grade this coin with a top tier TPG would be on the order of $50. I encourage relative newcomers to the hobby to slow down on the rush to 'grade' their coins when what is really needed is gaining knowledge to grade them yourself.

Might be beneficial to post a photo or two taken at a shallow angle to get a sense for the nature of the depression.

The two added pics makes it look harshly cleaned.

It is obvious that you 'cleaned' your cent.. notice the change in overall colour? That means numismatically the coin is ruined. Your wiped away years of patina.

The best strategy is to never, never, NEVER ever clean your coins, period.

Worth one cent. Why spend money to have a face value, damaged coin graded?
