The coin intrigues me a little. Something about the ageing and the dirt that I like. I'm not sure how to read this and so am looking for opinions. As to the wear, it looks to be AU-55, maybe even 58, but the dirt and complete lack of original finish and any luster in a 55 or 58 ....... I'm just not sure how to grade it. Help ..... thanks

Forgot to add. these are not my images, just the best I could do with the seller auction photos

Given the images posted, I'm sensing low AU--just me.

I agree with you at 55/58. Looks like circulation rub on the eagle's breast and wing tips. The rim on both sides has a lot of dings that are typical for coins in circulation. A solid strike with nice details in the hair above the ear.

I can see AU-58, to be honest.

I'm also at AU-58 sharpness, but the grime doesn't help the eye appeal. And the obverse rim damage at 1:00 and 7:00 might detail it.

Thank you all for your quick opinions. When I posted this the bid was still in the low 30s, I thought I might bid as high as $40........ just now as the auction was nearing the close, the bid was already $48 and winning bid wound up at $50 even. I decided that $40 + was steeper than I was willing to bid and so let it go to somebody that wanted it more than I did apparently.

AU-58. Good for you for sticking with it and not getting caught up in the auction!
