All I can tell you is I've had this 1955 one cent coin for over 40 years in a plastic 2X2 in my night stand drawer. I had it marked as a 5 % straight clip with reeded edge. I'll leave it at that. Please provide your opinion. Thanks

Looks to me like a ragged clip. The blank was punched out of the end or edge of the roll. Has a small Blakslee effect on the reverse 180 out. Don't know what the edge is, maybe a dull or wore out punch.

It sure seems genuine, but I don't understand the edge.

OK Spence:

The diagnostic for this coin it is:

1. Ragged Clip
2. The Edge is from a worn collar.

Hope is useful for all's.

Anyone else have examples like this from a "worn collar"?

I appreciate the input from everybody. I'm tickled to have a nice clipped coin. My book of knowledge and one cent collection is growing thanks to you.

A nice ragged clip and the edge lines are called ejection lines. The lines on this coin are rather aggressive compared to the faint ones seen on most cents. The collar must have seen some type of damage or as previously stated , worn to the point ofhaving it's own flow lines.

Clipped coins for the most part are "clean" cuts, showing vertical striations in the cut... this looks different.
