I was going through my Buffalo nickels putting together P,D & S sets of each year and had a few 1938 Ds just sitting off to the side. I went on my PCGS app and looked at the value view when I noticed the varieties for that year of D/D and D/S and so on. I looked at the mint mark and happen to notice this. I am pretty sure it is the F.S. 512 just need some other opinions before I sell it, send it or keep it.

I was going to list this on ebay auction starting at face value to see what it goes for as a normal 38 D BN. Now I need to double check ALL of my Buffalo nickels with possible varieties. &

I concur with FS-512. I would give it an acetone bath and lightly roll over that green with a qtip to try and knock it out. Acetone should get most of it, xylene will likely take care of the rest.

Don't expect to get too much from it on ebay. If that pvc/verdigris cleans up, expect about $10.

Nice find!

Question when it comes to these OMM's: a which came first 'the chicken or the egg question.
When looking at this coin, it is obvious that the D is covering the S so we call it a D over S MM. but on the die which one was applied to the die first? I would say the D then the S came second and not tapped in as well as the D. so in my mind - on the die it would be an S over D right?
