Looks like a die chip but does strangely have some design features to it. What do you see hear? Abe with earpiece?

That does look a bit like a behind-the-ear hearing aid. I wonder if it isn't a collapsed plating bubble. Not sure though—I'm interested to see what others think.

It is interesting - haven't seen anything like this one before, possible big chip - but something that large should rise above the device, this looks flat.

Pretty cool looking and great pics as always! It's a small RIDB and a fairly common place for it to happen. You can see several years that have them in the same place, on the link I have provided but none for 1997. It may be too small to get listed though, JC has limited them to 4 mm or larger. Might be worth giving a try when he starts accepting submissions again.

I hadn't noticed the proliferation of them in his area and around this time frame before.
