AU58 or MS62 probably an old cleaning may be acceptable

Very difficult to see and determine the amount of tiny hairlines and nicks under the patina, from these otherwise good pictures. There may be a lot (I doubt it), there may be very few. Therefore, expect a range of grade opinions MS-61 to 65. Potentially, that would make for a huge difference in value. some obvious die cracks on both obv and rev. This coin presents a strong case for in hand examination before committing to buy. If you have set your heart on it, you necessarily have to trust the grade as stated on the slab. Remember, the TPG opinion is just that, and it is still caveat emptor.

Very nice MS coin. At least a 63, and I expect it to be a little higher than that. These photos do not give me confidence to grade it properly.

MS66, I didn't think it looked that high. Sold in 2010 for $27600. NGC price guide has it now at $30,000, although looking at last sold there's a 14k, 15k and 16k so that was a pricey buy!

At this grade level, it would have looked much nicer in blast white, but at the age that it is, perhaps that is asking too much.

TobyJ: An outstanding coin for sure. The price comparisons you are using are actually a misnomer. You are using NGC sales to compare to a PCGS CAC graded coin. There are only three CAC graded 1837 MS 66 CAC 50c. All are in PCGS holders. The one you posted sold for $27,600 in 2010, another sold for $38,187 in 2015, and one sold for $32,900 in 2016 (sold again in 2017 for $30,500) . These sales represent the three known 1837 PCGS MS 66 CAC coins. The current PCGS price guide is $40,000.
