included with this month's flyer, is a 'Special Notice' that Numismatic, non-circulation, and premium bullion coins issued in 2023 will have the double date 1952-2022 'mark' on the obverse separated by "4 pearls"

@Dcadon: Thanks for the update!

Is the list complete? I don't see a proof set - it's normally part of the Mint's first release.

Typically how long after this notice are the coins available for purchase on the mint's website for the general public? I don't see them listed there now.

I haven't received the advanced product notice. But I already saw a few new coins at local Canada Post office.

Happy New Year!

They'll likely be released to the general public next Tuesday (09-Jan-23). In general, it's a week after the upper tiers of the Mint's Masters Club get their opportunity.

RCM has to come up with new designs. Placing this "kit" on coins that no one has a clue who she is?. Another squandered opportunity compared to other country's output of coin designs. I ordered one thing this month and that was the 1/10th gold bullion with my accumulated points worth $300.00. Their new website sucks and I have no idea why they had to fix something that was not broken. I would love to be a fly on the wall when discussions on who to have on their coin designs are taking place. Will the RCM go broke for being so woke by ticking boxes?

@New1954... Not sure that I fully agree. I also had no idea who she was but in looking into "Kit" she was the world's first female war correspondent and this commemorates the 125 anniversary of her accreditation as a war correspondent... A Canadian first.

Part of the role for the NCLT is to allow us to reflect on our shared history... It could be argued that this is a significant milestone that has been lost to time for the mainstream and in this case, I can support this choice for subject matter both in the educational aspect and the broader exposure. There are many threads on this forum where we bemoan the re-tread subjects... Polar Bears, Eagles, Sports.. RCMP and heavens above... the Maple Leaf.

I was happy with last year's choices of Alexander Graham Bell and Oscar Peterson on the SD and Circulating Loon... and accept Kit Coleman as a legitimate candidate for a SD.

What is more interesting to me is that the Silver Proof set is not being released at the same time as the SD. I don't recall if this split has occurred in the past... Is it possible that the Silver Proof set gets a different SD design beyond Selective plating? Given the breadth of topics available this year... not least of which is a coronation... This might just be the opportunity to break this linkage.

It is also odd that the only Unc/Circulating sets released are the giftware ones. Normally January Release includes the annual Unc/Circ set... Again... maybe waiting until May for an Obverse change.

All of that said, it is hard to argue with your legitimate criticism of the new website,

@vonigohcr

Thank you for your input and tis a great point of view. These coins will not sell out and will still be available for a long time just like the graham bell and oscar peterson coins that came out last year. "kit"'s story is an amazing one and deserves attention.

Also, I did read somewhere today and I cannot remember where that the RCM will have no new circulation coins for 2023. So, just maybe tis the year of NCLT. LLLoolllllllll

I think the same design will be used for the Fine Silver Proof Set w/ Selective Gold plating. The Kit Coleman SD is also to be part of a Special Edition Proof Set - maybe the 2023 SE Set will feature a more traditional portrait of Coleman, similar to last year's approach for the SD in the SE Set for AG Bell.

I sure hope so... I was hoping that the selective plate version would see the light ... I am not a fan of the artifact/word filled silhouette like the AG Bell coin last year or the 2012 UK Mint 2 Pound Dickens coin.

I have seen too many lame PowerPoint presentations with these word cloud/artifact cloud graphics to be enthused by them.

I also think that the RCM will want to retain room for a large KCIII offering that will likely land in May... We may see 2 Special Edition SDs to make room.

I went online to the RCM website to show my son the double dates on the coins in the Birthday, Baby and O'Canada sets. As I went through the pictures of the individual coins I noticed a boo boo, the 50 cent coin. These sets don't have a 50 cent coin. I guess when the uncirculated set comes out it will have the double dated 50 cent coin, and I would assume the 50 cent rolls will as well. When the uncirculated sets do come out, I imagine they will sell well if they have a double dated loon dollar.

Unfortunately, the gift sets haven't had a 50-cent piece in recent years at all
