looks a bit like the result of a Grease Filled Die, i.e. Struck Through Grease

This is why it is always a good idea to post a full OBV and REV picture. While Struck Through Grease is a possibility, if on the OBV there is a corresponding mark, then this coin also may have just been put on a flat surface and hit by something that flattened the details.

I agree, it could have had grease in the arrow void, but it can also be a hit. Need to see the obverse to know for sure.

Thanks for the pics. No it is a normal business strike Type A which for those years was characteristic low strike. The leg in general it is low pressure strike and probably some grease was involve.

Thanks for the additional images. I tend to agree that the die was partially filled with a gritty grease.
