First, the back story ...
After going through some loose, circulated, post-1971
Kennedy halves I had around, I decided to take 15 of them to my bank with the intention of depositing the $7.50 into my account. The teller told me she couldn't take them in hand, that I had to go to the "coin-star-like" machine they had at the side of the lobby. I thought that was odd but did so anyway.
I dumped in the halves and above on the wall they had a sign that said non-members would have to pay a 15% fee that would be deducted from the coupon that was about to be printed. I didn't have to pay a fee but I did have to take my US legal tender to a machine and get a coupon before I could deposit said legal tender into my account. And to think that a bank would charge a walk-in a 15% surcharge to convert this small number of legal tender half dollars to paper money. Welcome to the new world!
The good news...As I am accustomed to reaching into the coin reject tray at similar machines, I stuck my hand in and felt around at this one. I came out with a beat up 1984
Lincoln Cent, 2
Roosevelt dimes, a watch battery and... this pictured Czech 1 Koruna coin.
I had to laugh at how things have changed since a few decades ago. :-)
