This die is one of the more minor varieties in the CherryPickers' Guide, but it is there so can be worth looking for (PCGS estimated value in MS66 is $750). I nabbed this one off ebay for ten bucks, and the listing title even said 1972 DDO. But the seller has a couple other 1972 coins listed as DDO which are not, so I wasn't enthusiastic about clicking it. And there are dozens of listings on ebay mis-attributing 1972 doubled dies. Just rarely worth looking at. Yet this one was a winner. For the year, FS-101 through FS-108 are all on a die without the master die doubling. So typically you just look at IN GOD WE and know if it might be one of those or not depending on whether it has the MDD. But then there is this guy, FS-109. It is on the die with the MDD, so if you see MDD in the motto then just give a quick check of the area above the bar of the 2 in the date. This is a nice stage-A example so they aren't all this strong, but it's visible in all stages. 1972 Lincoln Memorial cent doubled die - DDO-009, FS-109

Nice pick, especially for the value. Thanks for the reminder about the MDD. I can never remember which DDO for the year had the MDD as well.

Beautiful specimen! I have a pretty good friend send me one about a year ago and I love it. The most overlooked FS coin in my estimation.

Excuse my ignorance - what does the acronym MDD stand for?

Thanks for all the kind words! I figure this should hit MS65 and in the early die stage be worth slabbing so it'll go in my next submission. But it's been taking 5 months to get coins back so maybe around mid-summer I'll see it again.

Well surprise, this one is already back from PCGS. They have really ramped up the speed and things are coming back fast, after years of waiting many months. But quality is all over the place, with some things grading high, some low and some where you'd expect. This one graded high at MS66RD, so I can't complain about that, but I've had better looking coins recently go 65 so there is no real telling what grade a coin will get from them at this point.
This coin sits at POP 12/0 and is currently the major plate coin for this variety on PCGS Coinfacts website.

Very cool on the grade! I always like to see when you and others, get the plate coin, that's pretty impressive.
