This was one of the best grainy lined pennys I'v ever found. Both Obverse and Reverse are the same, lines are going in the 9 & 3:00 o-clock direction. 1999 had issues but this one is a 2006

This is a common issue with plated zinc cents.

They are not roller lines Coinfrog , they do not appear on plated steel cents of the same years. I believe the lines are related to zinc planchets.

Is that 2006 a zinc or steel?

Its a 2006 zinc. Purpose of post was to show the line affect coin %100 covered on the obverse and reverse. Great conversation peice. I guess the biggest question for everyone is why Plated Zinc coins struck under the die pressure some times come out this way. There is a scientific explanation.

I have been saving the best of these that I have found. I even have a great one like yours in a mint set.

I used to save these too but there were just to many, I would suggest that it has something to do with zinc and the heat generated during the strike but I am not a chemist.
