I found this 1980 philidelphia mint penny that is not heavily circulated but the entire Lincoln bust is very faint compared to the rest of the obverse, he kinda looks like a ghost, he even has a floating nose. I haven't seen anything like this before, is this common? I posted a few different angle pics plus a comparison with another 1980 P of equal grade.

I'm going with over polished die on this one. It is also called a woody, (Wood grain effect) from improper alloy mix. I definitely like the coin.

The lines you see are roller lines, not a woody. Here is a pic from the Lincoln Cent Forum.

Yes, roller lines and over-polished die issues.

I stand corrected on the woody. Thank you.

CJ18850, there is hardly a time that I log on here, that I don't learn something. If I don't, I'm probably just not paying attention.

80% of the woody coins on sale today are polishing lines. CJ you has to study a little bit the woody's form of pattern in function of the alloy.

Those are polishing lines.

Thank you folks. I appreciate you. I responded too fast knowing of roller lines. I usually take my time, but I was certainly guilty of giving a wrong answer and admit to it. Silviosi... thank you. But I'm good.

I think you'll find the roller lines will rub off easily. Keep searching!
