This coin I found going through one of my grandpas coin books. I have no clue if this is something that can happen during the minting process. I know it has happened on one side or the other. But in my few weeks of research here and there. I have not seen one wrap around the coin. Could it have been 2 pieces of wire? The crisp edge of the flares throw me off. The penny looks pretty cool non the less. Minus the gouges. Any idea the cause of those while we're here? They don't appear to be scrapes. Improper alloy defect of some kind?

Thanks for looking.

Welcome to the forum, unfortunately everything on this coin is post mint damage. Definitely didn't happen during minting. The matching damage on both sides may be from something like pliers or wire cutters, but there is no way to say for sure how it happened.
