1943 P Henning Fake/Counterfeit Or Pewter War Nickel?

A friend of mine believes that this 1943 P Nickel is a Henning counterfeit War Nickel. It is vastly different in color to a regular nickel and the metal just feels different. It weighs 4.8g about 0.2g shy of a regular nickel, but I can't find any information on any 1943 P Henning nickels. This nickel definitely does not look real. I've also added a pic of it next to a real 1941 nickel for comparison. It looks like its made out of pewter. Edited by 2foxy 01/25/2023 07:04 am Report this Post to the Staff

Also to note - the Henning was dated 1944, which is why you cannot find anything on a 1943 Henning nickel. I see great wear on this coin with a 'circle of death' (Coin rolling machine) and dark toning of the coin. the weight is within specs. Wartime nickels seem to tarnish to a fairly dark color - back about 30 years or so ago when you could still find them often in circulation that's how I'd typically quickly spot one in a pile of change...
