Hello all,
been sometime since I posted here but am hoping someone can help with this. Been doing some clearing out and came accross this coin, thought it might be some kind of penny. Anyone shed any light on this ?

Hi veroli. Yes, it's what's known as a 'cartwheel' penny. Issued during the reign of George III, currency was the value of the metal it was struck from. Copper being cheap by comparison with silver, took an ounce to make up a penny. (If you weigh yours and it's 2oz (56.5g) it's a 2d. Needless to say it wasn't very practical to carry a lot of these as change and I think they were only issued for the one year!

Yours has been engraved on one side. Sometimes called 'love tokens' it was probably a piece to keep as a memento and carry with you. Perhaps given to someone else as a gift.

Your photos aren't very clear, but it looks quite nice. There's a market for these, though putting a value on them is tricky as it's a specialised area. An interesting piece!

ive attached a couple more photos hopefully these are a bit better, its hard to work out the best way to take them.
Not really sure what to do with it but if there is a market for it that would be interesting
