Had these drilled coins, thought I would try some things I was thinking about. Next time half coin and waste less experimental coins, better comparison. **** Sorry, Before is on the right, after is on the left. Compound A : seems the least intrusive. Compound B: was a bit stronger, however. Love to hear the feed back   Edited by Rillionon

Before is on the left, after is on the right.

one of the concerns with removing surface material is that it can expose reactive metal that was previously protected. make sure to keep an eye on what happens to the coins over time. i would like to see before and after pics of the same coin using the same lighting set up. your half and half idea is pretty solid. i have a coin resoration thread going. there is some good discussion on methods, tools and chemicals. check it out: http://goccf.com/t/435186 |

Trying on some green coins as well to see the result. I have a super dirty one that I am going to try this on. I'll share what I use if you all think it works. Just do not want to send anyone off on a disaster. lol |

I understand you are just doing a test but the problem I see is these are not the kind of coins I would dream of messing with it's the ones that have a lot of junk and deposits on them that I would think most people would consider trying to clean just my opinion.

Confusing and it's terrible someone drilled the coins (not saying it was the OP). Especially the 53. Being in Maine, I have a nice collection of these.

If you are doing a before and after test please use the same coin for this. Using 2 different years we don't know what it looked like before.

Took some more before and after, will post when done and in the cleaning thread. Already got my before pics, lol |

over in that thread I'm trying to talk about that specific coin so I think it might work better if you started your own (maybe this thread is that thread?). feel free to link to wherever you are discussing your coins in that thread though as I do think any discussion on the subject is relevant.
