These are sad remnants of what used to be Lincoln pennies. Unfortunately they were subjected to an extended stay on a busy parking lot ground before someone finally decided to pick them up and put them back into circulation. I can't help but wonder what year/mint they were.

Hurry, better put this on Etsy for $50,000 dollars as a unique mint multi-error! Lets see, this cent was struck on a foreign coin, you can kinda see the underlying design as pure silver but was somehow plated at the mint with copper and was improperly annealed at that. Shards of metal must have also been struck onto this already mess of mint errors to make it look like this coin... This is what some folk would genuinely believe about very destroyed coins like this

Many people totally dismiss cent coins thinking they area useless, and in some ways they are correct. In this day and age of plastic why use coins or any paper money? It's a hassle to even get physical money, plastic is much more convenient. Cent coins have their days numbered I'm afraid with other coins right behind them. Cent coins after 82 1/2 are plagued by zinc rot anyway, it's useless to collect them as one day they'll only be a little pile of dust.

I have about $12 in coins like this and even worse. I save them and damaged bills till I have a good amount and trade them in. Like puppy attacked $20's or even lawnmower shredded $50 (found it walking my dog)
I enjoy showing up with them in separate sandwich bags and asking for customers service.

merclover, I share your thoughts about zincolns but If you can find a high grade zinc, in the future that would make it worth more because all of the circulating coins will have turn to dust.

I don't know if circulation vs non-circulation matters on zincolns, I think the problem is in their manufacture. Maybe this was done on purpose?

Beautiful! Nasty or heavily damaged coins are kind of "my thing".

Merclover made a good point, a few hundred years from now the zinc pennies will have deteriorated beyond any recognition. Pre-1982 pennies will be our last preserved legacy for future generations in the single cent category
