I found this 1972 S that looks like it might be a DDO-004. Although it is a bit worn. I added some comparison pics. Thoughts? Thanks in advance :)

First off, the 004 is a proof coin and yours is a business strike, secondly, the doubling is above the lower cross bar of the 2. Just a normal coin, sorry.

Are you sure it's not a proof? I cleaned it up, I know we're not supposed to clean them, but it was so heavily caked with dirt and oil. Here are some after pics. It has the sharper edge rims also. It appears to have the matching doubling under the top curve of the 2, but the lower crossbar on my coin is flattened from circulation, is there a possibility that it might be covering the visible doubling in that area?

Wow, looks like you took some Brasso to it! It's really irrelevant, the doubling, is where I have pointed to on the VV example and the area on yours, I have circled, no doubling. The spot you pointed out, on yours, is in the original design, on all of the coins. I can tell you will be a good teacher some day, just keep paying attention.

Makecents thank you for the info :) I appreciate your expertise. I think brasso might be too harsh to use. I've been a jeweler for 30+ years, my specialty is restoration of vintage and antique jewelry. I figured I would try my skills at cleaning and restoring a few dirty tarnished spenders and the results were pretty amazing. I just do a quick dip in powdered Rena lite dissolved in warm water followed by tech wax. I like the Rena lite because it has no phosphorous or harsh chemicals.

We ask for no screen shots because of pixelation. Please use your memory card. I too am not seeing Doubling for DDO-004 either. What cleaner did you use (never clean your coins).

2foxy, that's pretty impressive! I will have to defer to your expertise on Rena lite.

Altered coins ruins any value that they could of had. Original surfaces are desired by seasoned collectors.

Note the description for the DDO:

Quote:
Description: Medium spread as an extra bar above the 2 of the date.

So that one area is the DDO. The arrows are pointing towards the wrong area. The DDO is just the Bar above the cross bar on the horizontal area of the '2'.
On this listing on the Stage 'A', the master die doubling on the devices are not the DDO-004. What is the Master Die Doubling:
1972-S-Possible-DDO-004?
Note the arrows on my image. Those are the MDD areas. 50% of the cents that year have that. That is not the DDO-004, and no premium is seen on these MDD cents.
Back the to the V.V images:
The Coin is a proof coin, not a business strike coin. (Both were struck that year) Yours is not a proof coin.
On the images of the Stage 'A':
On the motto on the right sides of the coin, that is Machine Doubling. (Cause post strike on this coin) This is not part of the DDO-004, only above the horizontal bar is that DDO.
You coin is not the DDO-004, or any other DDO. It is a normal coin. In order to be from this die, the hub doubling (The area above the cross bar) will be the only area that will show the DDO-004. Your coin is not from that die. All hub doubling must match. Machine Doubling and the MDD is not part of the DDO-004. Also the location of the mintmarks will also be the same as this proof coin DDO.

Doesn't Matter what you use. Looks like brasso to me too. I know brasso. This is not a proof. If there were any numismatic value, there is none now.
