This was among my uncle's coins. I'm not entirely sure it was a coin, though. It's just slightly larger than a penny, not quite as thick. It's still round so probably wasn't squished by a train or anything like that. It has a shallow coin-like rim and the barest ghost of a design on the back. The metal is not magnetic.

Any guesses? (I know the photos aren't perfectly clear—the original photos were fine but between compressing them to less than 300 KB and cropping to just the coin, this is the result. Hopefully this is good enough.)

Also, just a historical possibility: I think the tin this was in came from my great grandparents—my uncle spent some summers on their farm. My 2Xgreat grandfather was Canadian, and he came to the US to fight in the Civil War, so there's a possibility this might have been either a Union token or a Canadian coin from his youth.

twslisa, I'm thinking that it's just a slug of some sort. The edge is too crisp for it to be a slick. Outside chance at a blank planchet.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I was thinking one or the other as well (actually my first thought when it fell into my hand was that it was another worn beyond recognition Liberty nickel, since he had several of those, but it's too small). But there's the barest hint of a raised design of some kind and a hint of a rim as well. I wish I knew how to get a better photo. Anyway, I figured I'd give it a try. Thanks!

Yes, sorry, but I'm not really seeing any pattern or indication on it that it was ever anything but blank.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
