I bought books to fill, and they are helping with keeping it fun. But as in finding an error code I'm on day 3 having spend probably 12 hours of looking through quarters. Now granted being new I'm probably going at this way too slow for looking for things. What do you all do when you hit a dry spell? It it normal, or do I need to study flaws to quarters? Right now I'm pushing through. Might do a round of nickels/dimes to break monotony. EarthMetal

Would definitely mix it up with dimes, nickels, or even cents or halves, if that's your thing. Might find some pre-1962 nickels or wheat cents to keep things more lively.

Just be aware of uncirculated dimes and nickels, I got $100 in dimes and $50 in nickels and they are all uncirculated! I would try half dollars, they usually give you something, NIFC, silver or proofs.

And I signed my own name backwards. What a week. Going to take your advice and switch up and set the books aside.

I agree with the others...you should mix it up a bit and search for other denominations as well. That also makes it more fun. You're going to continue to have dry spells by searching only one type of coin.
Plus, are you only searching for error coins? That's seems a rather dull process to me. Stretch your plans and I think you'll have more fun - truly!
Either way you go - keep enjoying the process! Happy Hunting!

I study what people post and then study the responses to learn. I keep reading about the coin making process, etc.

We all go phases like that, of unknown length into the future periods of time. It's times like these to take the opportunity to expand your numismatic horizons. That way, bargains are much easier to find.
That is why I took the opportunity to collect across the whole range of numismatics. Have been doing this for more than 40 years, and my learning curve is still steep.
At the end of your life and the collection has to be sold, it is only the rare, interesting and high condition coins that other collectors are really interested in. The common coins stay common, the rare coins become rarer.

MetalEarth - you might enjoy one of the Cherrypickers Guides. Check them out. There are some really expensive versions out there and lots of reasonable ones. I think they might be right up your alley.
There's so much more to coin collecting. I don't think that errors is really a good place to start. Try to become familiar with more varieties and it should be more fun and still challenging for you.
Let me know what you think? We're all here to help

Day 4 nothing of interest. Time to broaden my horizons as one said.

Oh yes, Kindle is a great way to go!
You could also check at a local coin store...they have them. Some of the prices are ridiculous but, others are more in-line with reason.
Have fun!
