Hi,
It's been 8 years tonight since the amazing Landon Hoard has been sold and I was wondering if somebody knows about the existence of any pictures of the hoard before it got certified by ICCS, or at least a picture of the certified hoard (or part of it) when it was exposed before or during the sale?
Thanks! Edited by Dollar 1935 02/11/2023 11:47 pm

Try contacting Canadian Coin and Currency, they were partners of the sale if I remember correctly.

Pretty sure that the Charles Moore Estate is going to be your only source . It was his Sale ! Still have some Landon Pieces in stock . What wonderful original skin material !

It was a great auction and a fun time. Saw many old and new friends there. Finished at about 3am as I recall.

I suspect that the hoard did not look that exciting before it was searched, which probably explains why it sat untouched for so long. Maybe 10 or 20 rolls of large cents in a box?

Thank you all! I remember watching the auction live, it was amazing to see so many top grade mint-fresh large cent!
I wonder if Landon himself has left any notes on the rolls and if so, it would've been interesting to see those, hopefully they haven't been tossed away in the trash can once the coins were out!

Quote: Maybe 10 or 20 rolls of large cents in a box? Nope. I saw this collection when it was raw, and the estate was shopping around for auction houses. They were all in double row boxes in those little yellow envelopes, and obviously stored in a dry climate.

Some of them had some type of tissue paper around the coins, which is why you see tiny bits of paper residue on some.

That was a strange auction, as there was a second auction right after (Victoria North collection) that went into the wee hours of the night (3 am I think) and prices at that time of the morning, sold for very low prices considering the ultra high grades of the coins.
I may have my facts wrong, but if I was the owner of those coins, I'd be a little peeved they were being peddled at 3am.

You are NOT correct about the Victoria North Sale . That was the next night , not at 3 AM after the Landon Sale . The Landon sale went well past 3 , I got back to my room at about 445 AM . Heck of a sale , glad I was there ! Another misconception is that Brombergs company handled the Landon sale . It was Charles Moore's Sale . All of the other sales that week were under the guidance of Canadian Coin and Currency with some input from Chuck .

No it did not , went very fast with not much in the way of bidding action on Most lots . Certainly no buzz or bidding action as compared to Landon Sale. Rather dull and boring until about the third pint !
