Not sure what to make of this penny. It has a real gritty texture to both sides. What type of error would this be if it is at all.. So PLEASE any ideas would be appreciated.. Thanks

*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

Seems more like it spent some time in a corrosive environment. What does it weigh?

Looks like the coin took a dive into an acid bath. No numismatic value it this point.

Most times acid damage makes the coin lighter, and the edges rounded, eaten away.

Altered coin. How? It really doesn't matter. It wasn't struck that way!

@Chase - the OP says the coin weighs 3.11 grams so this is not a Zinclon.

to the CCF Looks like it has been sandblasted. Acid would eat away weight., sandblasting with beads would just smear the copper.

It has to be PMD
There is no way for that to happen during the striking of the coin.
