I'm new to errors so I don't know where to go with this. I got a box a pennies hunting for wheaties and ended up with all 2023 virgin rolls. Thought I'd take a peak and found several of these with an extra V after VDB on Lincoln bust. Any help would be appreciated.

Well the incuse devices are normal. These devices would be raised on the die for the the VDB. If it is a contact mark from another coin, then that might be what it is. A dropped letter would seen on a incuse devices. The devices raised on the die would not be filled.

The extra V is incuse. Some of them I found are extremely crisp.

How many of these have you found? And the the extra 'V' in the same exact location from coin to coin?

The V is in the same location and all so far. I've been through about 10 rolls and have about 20 so far.

It would have to be an exact location on each coin in order for it to be a die issue.

Very cool looking. I'm with Dearborn. Can you take pics of some others, so we can see if they are in the same exact location?

Being incuse, I still think it is a dropped letter. The V is the same size and style as in the initials. You can have multiple strikes from a dropped letter until it eventually releases from the die.

I'm with Jimmy here, this is a repetitive dropped letter. which I think is very cool.
(and thanks for the extra images they were helpful. however, with them not being in our hands, it is difficult to mentally line up the coins. It would be great if all coins you take of this is the same, (same orientation, same zoom factor, and same framing of the images..)

I might add, that this is a very nice find - after all who examines the initials that closely on every cent?

Quote: On all those different coins in the same spot? Maybe I put wrong term. Could be a dropped letter which imprint in the Die and then all the others will have this letter rise on same place same form. I am far, but I will like to perform some dsx test on those coins. Before to pronounce for the cause on how could happened. Miss me new rolls for 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
