Yeah sorry about the janky random photos. These are my first pics ever of a coin. From my 3 day old magnifier. All seem to be in same location and all appear to be incuse just some aren't as sharp and obvious. I'm just oblivious to the process of verifying this as a legit error.

Find it weird to think about it being a dropped letter sinceVDB on the dies would be raised. So the amount of grease to form over the V and the drop out seems off to me. I think a dropped letter from incuse part of a device is more reasonable to say it happens idk how you can get a dropped letter from a raised device.
But yea but interesting to say the least. Being incuse and on more then one coin.

Dropped letter are debris in the die, does anyone think this debris could fall out, get struck by over 100 tons of pressure, and make an imprint in the die or not be obliterated? I figured they were mostly one and done given how rarely you see them.

I would assume that the new coinage has not been out long. There may be bunches of these out there, if it could happen with a working hub, as opposed to a working die.

I'm sure it could and that actually makes sense seeing there is multiple I seen one on ebay. That's a good theory it came from the Peking hub onto the working die.

I agree with this theory of the Hub, but for this a few coins must be analyzed in hand. GOTH why you say "Peking hub"? Funny.

I'd be willing to send some out to analyze and keep for a few of you who have the know how to figure this out. Also trying to link up with one of the coneca attributors on this. It just seems like it could be an interesting and sexy variety or error.

Would love to add two to my shield cent collection of errors.
And also examine as well. If you have found an abundance etc or even just 1 is fine. As for analyzing in hand is always best to get a good grasp at what you're looking at and a better perspective. But it seems the consensus we've agreed on is most likely correct with other comments and discussion.

@ComeHonor716 If you want to analyze them, please PM me. I will pay you all the fees and return with my report. If confirm what I think, then we can look for some transitional coins. Up to you. Thanks to show this coin and also find more then one.

You are in East Coast, so this can confirm my trough.

I'm in the "Not a dropped letter" camp.

Exactly my thought about VDB on the working dies being raised so grease can't build up, fall out and cause a "dropped letter" issue.

Going "up" the process one step to the working hubs having the issue, as mentioned, makes more sense.

It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

BTW- Congrats to the OP for the box of freshly minted cents. $5.00 to $48 per roll is being asked on ebay at the moment.

This is fascinating. It wouldn't be a dropped letter for reasons others have explained. I'm not sure what it is. I would love to examine a representative sample and write this up for Coin World.
