Going by the fact that it's a zincoln and using the reverse, I would say it's between 82 and 85, other than that, not sure.

Not an error, just damage to the coin, after leaving the mint.

@make, I agree that this is damage, but don't you think that this was a copper cent (1959 to 1982)? I see a little grey color on the scratches, but I don't think that is from a zinc core. I'm interested to see what others think.

Spence, you could be right. Given the pics we have to work with, I felt the damage on the obverse showed zinc. That, put together with the reverse design, (I'm looking at the FG and AMERICA), once again, with the pics given, the two things combined would narrow it down to the RDV-004 reverse, (74-85). Clearer pics would be great!
