Howdy,
I noticed three things on this steel cent. Please tell me what you think. First, there appears to be a die crack along the bottom. Correct? Second, something is hiding behind the 3 in 1943. DD? And lastly, is that mint mark normal? The coin is in pretty great shape, so I don't think its PMD. Thanks for taking a look. Have a great day.

Yep, nice die crack, behind the 3? sort of - it is a die chip inside the loop of the 3. As for the Mint Mark - a nice photo would be nice to see.
I'll add that this coin looks like it was replated. (far too shiny) A normal steel cent will be more of a matte finish.

Yes on the die crack.. Not seeing anything odd with the 3. There may be a small die chip within the top portion of the 3. Mint marks were placed by hand back then so their position/orientation can vary a bit. Given the lighting, the coin looks to be plated (reprocessed)--especially in the 3rd and 4th photos. Consider posting a pic of the rim, taken end-on. That could tell us more about the possibility of the coin being plated.

Need a close up of the MM to tell whether it is normal or not.
Looking at the rippled effect of the fields on the close up,
it looks plated to me. A clear photo of the edge will verify this.

Pretty much a steel cent now with the plating. On the '9' that is die wear. There is a nice die crack on the coin, but the value will be reduced a lot because it was plated over. These cents should not look that shiny:

Altered surfaces drop the value a lot. (Problem coins) So it was a die event coin. But the condition now, is undesirable now.

So they basically ruined the coin... lame. Well, ya gotta learn somehow. I assume even if I could "un-plate" it, the value is toast. Thanks for all the input. May your good deeds bring you many treasures!
