Can anyone fill me in and give me a little knowledge about the coloration on this 2006 Penny? Also how about some of the markings, mainly the ones that make ol Lincoln appear to be coughing on the obverse, and a letter "Z" above the (N) of "ONE" on the reverse side? Am I just looking to hard for things that aren't there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Coins can take on any and all colors from the environment. And you answered your own question. Beware of Pareidolia.

@Cujohn. I appreciate the response, also would this be a coin that you personally would send to have graded? This happens to be a very good friend's coin, yet he is convinced he really has something with this coin while I have been trying my hardest to convince him otherwise. Simply for the fact that other than how "shiny" and how minimal scratched up it is, that there hasn't been anything else to show any value to this. Care to give any advice regarding such topics?

Fully agree with Cujohn. Given the pics posted, I wouldn't suggest submitting the coin for grading. It likely falls in the mid AU range--not uncommon for 2006 circulated examples. The coin would need to be at the MS67 or better to be truly valuable.

It has a value of 1 cent so if your friend wants to spend
$50-60.00 getting it graded, that is his choice.

Nothing special here, just a bag-marked common uncirculated cent.

The 'coughing' marks and the 'Z' are just impact marks from other coins hitting this one. As for the color, Copper can and will take up many different colors depending on the environment it is in (wet, dry, humid, dirt, acids, and sunlight, etc.)

As stated above, this coin is only worth 1 cent. It would have to be a perfect strike, no damage, no off color, to grade 68 or above which you would need to recoup your money. Show your friend what a 67 or 68 from one of the three grading services web site.https://www.PCGS.com/pop/uscoins https://www.ngccoin.com/census/ https://www.anacs.com/index.aspx
