I bought an innovation dollar from a dealer and I noticed that there are some stains on it. It looks like the oxidation is small. What could it be? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

My eyes see a lightly circulated coin that picked up some contamination during its brief time "in the wild."

If so, I am impressed that someone spent an Innovation dollar! I wish they were not NCLT. Need to kill off the dollar bill first.

the small 'dots' appear to be spray from a sneeze or something similar.

Thanks for the answers. I needed to know if it was the fault of the seller who sold me this coin. Now I know I won't give him 5 points.

An acetone bath and light application of an acetone-soaked cotton swab might be all that is needed to remove the stains.

Looks like environmental schmutz. Was it sold as uncirculated?

Yes, the seller said that the coin is from a roll.

Rolls are not guaranteed to be uncirculated. Anyone can roll up coins.

Quote: Rolls are not guaranteed to be uncirculated. Anyone can roll up coins. True, but the source of these dollars are Mint issued bags and rolls sold direct to consumers. They are not released to circulation like normal coins. Any that circulate were put there buy people who bought the bags or rolls, therefore it is more likely the roll in question was the Mint issued variety.

Evidently this was an online auction, based on your comment about Quote: Now I know I won't give him 5 points. Personally, I would never bid on an auction that does not say "the coin pictured is the one you will receive".
