Happy Sunday yall.. I'm curious about the doubling shown on the columns and UNITED STATES and if this coin was Struck Through Grease or double struck etc. I'm not sure any information is appreciated.

Closeups would help. Not seeing any woody effects.

Well, I'm not seeing a woody or a struck through here. As for any doubling - a better picture of it is needed.

On these the rolling lines can be seen. They are topical and wear off on the highest devices first. A Woody is a poor mix of the base metals. These are no topical, but as the coin wears, the wood design remains in place.

So a question. Would the 1980 coin you show in your second example be a collectible coin?
Well not collectible as that is up to the collector. I guess I meant to say, would it have monetary value?

Just a normal design coin. Even in BU there is not a premium unless it was a high grade coin. (Sold at coins shops for the BU coin for about a 25 cents. But you can still buy from collectors original rolls for a small premium. There are a doubled die that is worth a premium that year:

The difference? Note the side by sides below on a normal coin and the DDO coins:

Ohh my gosh, some of them are so hard to see to the untrained eye even with knowing what to look for. Is it better to have a two eyepiece microscope versus a digital one? I read that you can see depth with the two eye piece scope. Is this correct? Would it be easier to spot some of these?

If you like it keep it. that's the nice thing about this hobby, it's your collection so collect what you want. To me a microscope is the way to go, but I'm old and my eyes aren't the same as they use to be. I think a mic shows a lot more than a digital.

Scientific point of view the two eye piece microscope is the best. Two eye piece electronic with image or computing photos is very expensive but much more better then normal digital ones. The digital is convenient if you can see something on 5x to 15x, then you put at 100x and take pics to show. My electronic Microscope cost almost 10K and 1500 software year license, so no worth for collecting this one. A good microscope as Zeiss cost 1000 to 2500 and show everything.

The harder varieties could be detect also by a good three lens 100x magnifiers. The digital ones has the problems with lights dissipating who can foolish you.

My oppinion.

Thanx Cujohn and Silviosi for your replies. I bought a $90 digital and am not real happy with it. I use my loupe and the microscope is already collecting dust. Thinking of giving it to my 7 year old grandson for his rock and fossil collection.
