2000-Lincoln-Memorial-Cent-Semi-Plated?-PMD? 2000-Lincoln-Memorial-Cent-Semi-Plated?-PMD?

Could this have happened during the minting process or is it just wear and tear? Love Alun

If you use the search box, you will find a lot of info about this. Some think it is caused by a cigarette lighter and some say a plating issue.

To me it seems that someone had been eating pickles with their bare fingers and then handled this coin. A plating issue would not affect only the central parts of the coin, would it?

This is a plating issue. When they were plated the center of the coin didn't receive the plating right. You can find them a lot in late 90s and early 2000s.

Or are they altered? Heated with a cigarette lighter? Just not a premium I feel.

Coop, if it was a lighter, why is this always from the center out? If a lighter can get hot enough to remove the plating on the center, why not the outer also? I have found coins in unc rolls from 95 that were like this. It is a plating problem. Heat would effect the whole coin.
