Hey, it's me again. I have a dime that almost appears to have rainbow colors however the condition of the coin is not good. I am guessing it is due to chemicals or some other type of exposure? I am not looking to sell this as obviously it's not worth a dime! lol

Whatever the cause it appears attractively toned. If it only cost you a dime it's a keeper.

Toning through exposure to environmental agent(s). I like it. Suggest keeping it as an interesting curiosity.

Yes toning can be a plus. Keep it safe a few year and re-examine it, hopefully toning will spread and become even more attractive.

yes, some toning can get quite attractive, some not so much - it all depends on the environment it has been exposed to.

What is the best way to protect it? Should it be cleaned? I think I will put it away for my kids. That links shows so many different tints - wow!

No I wouldn't clean it and only handle it on the rim. Keep it in a cool dry place. I would put it in a 2x2 cardboard flip and stash it in my closet.

I usually don't like tone on cupronickel coins, but gotta say this looks good. And as stated above, don't do anything to it.Just put it in a 2by2.
