Welcome to the forum Stacy. Pictures would be helpful, as well as a better description of the coin. 1818 Jolas returns a very high priced Half Real on a Google search, so I'm already leary of authenticity.

This coin has a mintage of 8,000. I am not an expert to say if it is a fake coin but these type of coins are normally crude and this one is not. What other coins did your Grandfather left you.

The Jola is listed in the Red Book as a New Spain (Texas) token, issued in 1818 by the military governor of San Antonio with a nominal value of 1/2 real. Your example is clearly not from the same dies as the one pictured in the book although several different varieties are known. Most specimens are ground finds and show corrosion. Heritage Auctions archive lists a total of 8 specimens that they have sold over the years. Sale prices ranged from about $15,000 to $80,000. Your coin is almost certainly a fake but you would have to consult an expert to be sure. What about the "1816 kas" you mention? I've never heard of that one....
