I couldn't bring myself to bid on it. Coin looks "dead" to me. Seller has feedback of 5; the description was bad enough that I thought it might go low even if the coin was legit ("1853 quar dol vintage antique sliver bullion")

It sold for $51.

It looks real to me. It does look like the surfaces have been stripped of whatever original patina they may have had. There is an obverse rim cut, a significant gouge on Liberty's chest, and some spotting. Still, it has a lot of detail and might grade as high as EF-40 in terms of wear. I expect many collectors would be satisfied to get it for $51.

I agree with you steve199, It doesn't look right. I thought that as soon as I saw the pictures. I was recently at a coin show looking for a 1903-O Morgan. I found one. The price was OK, but it didn't look right either. Looked as if it was silver plated, and it was wearing off. I think that if it doesn't feel right, let it go. There will be another one to find.

The only way to tell would be to look at it under a loupe for signs of raised metal lumps on the surface and weigh it. I would have past on this one. Looks AU range if real.

The detail is great (like it's newly made?)and the color looks off. I think the combination of the two would warn the savvy collector to get a professional opinion before buying...
