What do you think of this 1845. I was told by the local coin dealer he would give me a few dollars for this coin. I have a feeling it is worth more than that. There is a flaw on the obverse, It looks as she is wearing a hanging tear drop ear ring.

pic quality poor...grades VG/F... looks like a counterstamp on the obverse
probably worth about $20 to a collector, IMHO

Welcome to the forum!

Atlas is right that the retail value is probably around $20. Below is a link to a relatively accurate retail price guide. I believe your large cent is toward the lower end of the scale. I'm guessing G4 or VG8; it's hard to tell from your pics (though your pics are much better than my sad attempts at taking pictures of my coins).

Dealers buy coins at less than retail, so they can make a living. Sometimes they offer WAY less. This can happen if they think you don't know any better, but can also happen if they are not confident it will sell very soon. A coin that will just sit in their inventory generates zero profit.

Thank you for taking a look. Some of these old coins I am not so sure on the condition. Some times one little thing will take the value away.

Very hard to grade from your pics.
Can you get closer?
Depending upon your collection, an investment in a photograde book may be a welcome addition. At least that would get you in the ballpark.

Welcome zakota,
Stay away from the dealers for awhile and learn what you might have here first. You are on the right track already. You questioned your large cent offer and posted a question here.
Have fun here learning on CCF!

A Few Dollars? Did he have a mask on when he said that? Sorta looked like a raccoon?

I went to him to ask questions on a few coins. He was making one offer after another on most of the coins. He always said they were not worth money but he was very happy to purchase all for little money. You could tell on his face that he was happy to see them. I would like to play poker with him)) I had heard he was not fair.

I have sold several similar large cents on ebay and yours would most likely go for between $15 and $20, best guess. I do love the large cents though! What cool coins! (Back when a cent was worth something!)
