I was given this nickel a long time ago by my Grandfather's friend at The American Legion, like 30 yrs ago!!. I wonder if these 2 marks are from minting process. The one mark is concave, and the other is convexed. It almost looks like to my newly learning un trained eye that the metal convexed was from the concave area, the high and low spots match opposite the other mark like it came out and was stamped there on the coin. Any thought?

Thank you for that, it just seemed weird that the 2 marks are almost literally the same size and shape. I thought after Mint but the irony of all the matching size and marks raised and unraised made me wonder... Wasn't sure if the old man knew something I didn't or thought it was an error, these 30 yrs now, that I just came to realize.

Thanks for the input!!

The community here is great and kind!!

Also there is no such thing as an after mint error, if it
happens after the coin is minted, then it is damage.
To be an error, it has to happen during the striking of the coin.

I mis-typed, I know an error is during the process, damage is after. It was a clerical error. Thanks

@bnd, no prob on the title—I've made it a little more clear for you. Also, welcome to CCF!
