We call this a ' Texas Cent'. Some people will place a zinc cent between 2 pieces of leather and squeeze it until the copper plating comes off. This will enlarge the cent in the process.

If diameter is the size of a nickle. Makes me think of a potential Texas Cent. Thanks, Doug.
