So I was given this guy by a customer and like probably most ppl, I just said it was PMD, which is more than likely the case, but the more I looked and felt around, I'm not so sure? It's really smooth on both sides, there's no real damage to the rim of any significance, and very lil, if any bends in the coin, so now I'm questioning? Is it possible it was struck through something, or maybe some sort of a beoadstrike type issue that maybe could've happened? I'm not very familiar with either process so that's why I wanted to post some pics to see what everyone else thinks!! If it were a vise job, wouldn't we see some more significant dings or nicks somewhere? And for it to be so smooth to the touch plus not being bent anywhere, I can't come up with how an individual could do this to a coin is his basement? Maybe yall have seen similar coins or know of some chemical that could make a nickel look similar, but I cant?

It's an anger management coin. Someone worked it over with a hammer.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

What you see is impossible to happen when the coin was struck.
It doesn't matter how it happened. PMD of sort.

Aye, post-strike damage of a rather vicious nature.

I know it's irrelevant how it happened, but my Lil mind is always asking how could I replicate, but I was coming up with nothing! The smoothness is what was throwing me off, even though that reverse doesn't appear smooth in the pics, it's pretty smooth? Then after seeing someone's thread about struck through cloth, the 3rd pic kinda looked similar, but knew that couldn't explain the oblong shape! I thought about a hammer, but while I've never taken a hammer to a coin, I'd ASSume it wouldn't be so smooth! Then you put under magnification and your eyes start playing tricks on you! And I hear what you're saying about it being impossible to leave mint in that shape, but after some of the authentic off strike examples I've seen, seems like there's a possibility for things to leave the mint in shapes I would've said was impossible, but......there they are, all slabbed and authenticated, leaving me to question everything

difficult to tell from such overmagnified, oversize pics that run off the display, but the coin looks flattened, perhaps via hammer

I do apologize, I'm lucky I did get a solid .750 batting average on keeping the pic on the display, but will try and include a bunch of crap in the next ones and zoom her on out! Could've sworn I read some where to crop pics to coin only, but I am running on fumes!! darn hospital workers wait for us to doze off then barge in!!! The nerve....I'll try and do a Lil better next time

Does not matter how it happened - some creative person found a way to make it look that way.

Whatever it was flattened with was smooth, thus transferring the smooth damage to the coin.

Looks like someone was able to hold the coin with their fingers and dip it in some acid...hence the details corresponding on both sides...?
idk?

Take a hammer to some coins, you'll find they all look alike. Just like this one.

Poor coin, can not told as the pain has at one point to be pressed, hammered and others mad outsiders on.

@smat45 if you say acid you has to specify more and not tell stories please. CCB420 will has no idea what to believe.+

PS: CCB420 Why you want to duplicate?
