I have a dozen of these and it was exciting at first but I'm beginning to think that they were all like this. Thanks in advance.

Yes exactly. After applying the mintmark by hand to the die, a bajillion of these would have been struck. As a general rule, we advise folks that the mintmark has to be so far from the target area that it is touching another design element for there to be added numismatic value.

That number sounds a little high.

If that die produced 7-800 thousand coins, then that's how many there would have been out there.

just how many is a 'bajillion' anyway?
Can you get a closer image on just the MM?

I didn't think that the Marines still had tank battalions - you know being more of a maritime fighting group, Island hopping and the such. I read that the Marines are re-grouping in preparations of potential conflicts in the West Pacific theater of operations.

Hand punched into the die. Thus they are correct. In the normal area. To the right of the bust and under the date:

They were hand punched until 1990. After 1990 the mintmarks are on the Master hub/master dies/working hubs, thus the are all in the same location for the whole year on the mintmark coins.
