Hello All,

I was recently going though some things my grandfather had left me, and included in them was a penny that I found interesting. It appears to have "In God we Trust" partially stamped on the rim on the back side of the coin. I did some research and wasn't able to find anything about this kind of mark. I was hoping someone could shed some light on it, and how it could have happened.
Sorry for the image quality, I had to compress the photo to make them fit, if needed I can upload to a photo site and share the link.

Unfortunately, the reverse letters in the word "trust", is indicative of a vise-job.

Trust transferred from another coin. Note the devices are incuse and mirrored. Not a mint error. Altered coin from another coin.

Thanks for the info, that's what threw me off on it. Why would people do that, just to try to make it different ? Boredom ? I realized I missed a picture, it looks like it was already a slight mis-strike.

either all that or to try to create an 'error to sell to an unsuspecting person.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'll toss it back in the stuff and keep it as a hand me down. I know he used to pick coins out of his spare change when he found them interesting. I have a few containers that I am going to work though and see what he found.

Thanks again!
