how a TPG looks at that rim damage is the key here. it does look like it occurred at the mint. personally I dont like it and have no idea why anyone would pay to have this graded but to each his own. worst guess in the world assuming they didnt care about the rim...MS63

Agree with MS-62. Not a fan.

I'm at MS-62 also. Nice coin although the scratches deter from it's beauty. The steel cents have interesting history to them.
I have an old whiskey barrel coin bank that my Mom kept her's in. I should open it up and see how many "shiny" one's she has. Ofcourse, she collected them in 1943.

I'm gonna say that even w/the worn dies and polishing lines...they threw whoever submitted this a bone and gave him MS-64. Still has luster through and through. smat

I guess MS62 range.
Why would anyone pay to slab such a common low value coin?

The moment you've all been waiting for... NGC graded this one... MS66 My dad specifically wanted this slab because I already had one and he decided he needed one for himself. They're not super common to come across, so I bought this one online. When it came in, that S caught my attention. In doing a little research, I found that there were indeed really noticeable die polishing lines on those. I found multiple examples that also graded 66 and had the exact same markings. So I have mixed feelings about that one. It's still within the return period, but I got it at a good enough price that it's still worth it for the other two, so I'll leave that decision to him. He has only started collecting, so this will be one of the highest graded groups of coins he owns, so I doubt he's going to care. Pretty crazy though. Like you guys, I thought that S looked more like a 62/63 to me. Just for my own sanity, I grabbed my own set, and I must have ended up with an earlier die state. Mine doesn't have these markings.
