So I found a couple very nice toned half dollars in an album today. This one is probably the best but all have similar toning. I checked sold ones on ebay and they seem to go for $4 ungraded at auction up to $699 buy it now for a 1976. Looking for a little help with these, as it's expensive to grade stuff to end up with a bunch of low dollar coins, but if this is what the big money collectors are after I'm willing to send them in. Plus I while this looks really similar to actually slabbed coins, I would not know what a Quetionable Color coin looks like on a half dollar. Pretty coin, and just looking for some guidance. 2006-D Kennedy half dollar - Toned

Looks like natural toning to me but I would wait to hear from the ones who know their stuff. Nice looking coin though

I'm not the expert on toning that you need to evaluate this - so take with a grain of salt my input that it looks natural to me and has fabulous eye appeal. Surfaces are also quite clean with the exception of the obvious bag hit on Kennedy jaw and the chatter around the mint mark. I would suspect MS65 or better from a TPG - but you already knew that. If you do submit it, let us know the final opinion.

I'm with Nickelsearcher. It sure looks like beautiful "Album Toning" to me (which I've heard referred to as "Bullseye" toning).
Take this with a grain of salt (since it's not copper lol) but I think this would definitely qualify as "Gem" (MS65 and up) and probably higher.
The reverse is almost flawless but the reverse of a coin can't raise the grade, only hurt it from what I've learned.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

I like it! I could see MS66. I'd consider rolling the dice and submitting it.

Are the North-South streaks an apparition caused by lighting - camera setup or are they actually on the coin?
It is a beauty.

Thanks folks, as this is all really helpful. As for the N-S lines it is my opinion that they are roller lines accentuated by the toning so you see them a bit more than you would on a normal coin, but I honestly don't even know if roller lines are even a thing on a half dollar. And to answer the question, yes they are on the coin not an artifact of photography. And c'mon John, a 64 at best? I'll stop by and pour you some extra coffee later, as there just is nothing on this coin that would knock it down that far.

I thought you knew I was not good at grading. What about the nicks on the obverse rim at E in liberty, between RT,by the 2.The reverse shield and tail feathers look weak. Not my area so take all this with two grains of salt John1

I deal with Kennedys quite a bit, and this one looks really nice to me. Unfortunately the older ones get the most attention, 1964 of course, but all the way up to Bicentennial, and proofs and SMS are big, especially silver (64 90%, 65-67 SMS, 68-70 & 76 proof 40%).
I would think your coin would sell with that toning and condition raw for more than $4. You could probably get $10-12 or more as is. My guess on grade would be at least MS65 or higher, but I don't have much experience getting them graded. I just know that yours looks a lot better than most of the modern ones I get uncirculated, and the toning looks pretty real and gives it great eye appeal. I would lean towards having that one or one similar graded to see how it does, and if you get 66 or higher, it's probably worth sending them all in.

It IS a pretty coin. I'm in the mid MS-60's too.
That silly spot on his jaw unfortunately drew my attention first but, overall I like the coin.

Thanks everyone, and cointree that was very helpful. True that it might be scary to send all of them in at once and risk getting them all QC'd, so maybe yes just send in one to see what happens. Historically a two-step submission would be a 10-month project as it was taking 5 months to get an economy submission back, but something happened at PCGS and they are kicking out orders like never before. Quality seems down, but speed is up, so far more reasonable to think about multiple steps to grade them by first testing the waters.
